In a press conference to address the shootings, Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York told WFFT, "Neighborhoods with strong neighborhood associations with significant involvement are lower crime neighborhoods."
Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry is focused on improving the quality of local neighborhoods. Today Mayor Henry told WFFT, "Crime begins in communities where there is very little parental control very little educational opportunities very little recreational opportunities."
Westley Falcaro is the president of the Lafayette Place Improvement Association. Her neighborhood is located on the South side of town.
Falcaro told WFFT, "We're very close to the violence that has occurred and that gives me much concern."
Westley sends out monthly newsletters to residents and police frequently patrol the area.
"We're going to be opening our eyes to see what we can do to make sure our
residents are safe," said Falcaro.
The Lafayette Place Improvement Association to meet with residents in April for a meeting to discuss safety.
