Fort Wayne Police have identified the man shot by police this afternoon.
Police say 22-year-old Carleon Ragsdale was treated for a "superficial wound" and released. He is set to appear before a judge tomorrow.
Around 1pm, police responded to a 911 call from a caller at a bus stop near Superior and Clinton Streets. The caller said a man--now believed to be Ragsdale--flashed a handgun while sitting on a bus.
Police say an officer arrived to check things out when Ragsdale took off running. The offier chased him. A second officer joined in the chase. Police say during the chase Ragsdale pointed a gun at the first officer. The second officer later fired and hit Ragsdale. Ragsdale was able to run a short distance before collapsing on the grounds of the Allen County Jail. He was taken to a local hospital and later released.
"We have to use deadly force when deadly force is presented to us," said Police spokesman Michael Joyner.
This is not the first time Ragsdale has been shot. According to a police report obtained by FOX Fort Wayne News, Ragsdale said he was shot in the shoulder in August 2008 while riding in a car after getting into an argument with some people in another car. He was treated at a hospital.
Joyner said the name of the officer who shot Ragsdale should be released sometime Thursday.
