President Obama has announced new federal standards for auto fuel efficiency and pollution.
The rules are designed to boost mileage to more than 35 miles per gallon by 2016.
The plan is backed by ten car companies and the UAW.
But it also threatens to increase the pricetag on cars even more in an already tight economy.
The program is set to take effect for model year 2012 up to model year 2016.
The new standards are expected to increase the average cost of a car by $1,300.
