Splash pads cool down locals

Remember when you were younger. It was a hot day and you were in your backyard with the sprinkler on, running around. Imagine that only with more sprinklers, less grass and environmentally conscious. That’s what Fort Wayne residents can experience this summer.
They’re called Splash Pads.
According to Sarah Nichter from The Parks and Recreation Department, a splash pad is touch activated playground full of water. It’s similar to running around through sprinklers when you were younger.
All together there are 6 splash pads located throughout the city.
So between a splash pad and pool what’s the advantage to a splash pad?
Well for one thing, according to Nichter they conserve more water than polls and don’t require any chemicals. Also they are free to enjoy. Nichter notes that “pools cost taxpayers a lot of money” so these splash pads cut down those costs.
If youre looking to head out to a splash pad this weekend there are five parks to choose from. Buckner, McCormick, Memorial, Shoaff, and Waynedale.
All splash pads will be open this Memorial Day weekend from sunrise to sunset.
Unfortunately, if youre looking to head to a public pool this weekend they will remain closed while crews install new drain covers.
