Its the second most common cancer among women: breast cancer. Twelve percent of women will develop it. According to Dr. Katherine Lee breast cancer can happen to any women. It is not particular to a certain age or race. In 2009 alone, nearly two-hundred thousand women will be diagnosed with breast cancer; around forty-thousand will die from it. Many Fort Wayne high schoolers are trying to reduce that number by raising money for the Vera Bradley Breast Cancer Foundation. Around 30 north side High School students are turning the town pink by raising money for breast cancer research. From selling pink ribbons and "in memory of" signs students to collecting money at lunch, students are thinking pink, selling pink and giving hope to finding a cure. Students will continue to collect money until May 28th when the Vera Bradley Foundation will turn the town pink for "wear pink day". Events include a special proclamation by Mayor Henry along with a special TinCaps game where the whole team will sport pink jerseys. Those jerseys will be auctioned off during the game. All proceeds will go towards breast cancer research.
