Crews Plowing Away

Snow crews in Fort Wayne plowed the streets around the clock.  Most of the major roads are clear, but many of the side streets are still covered from the storm.   

I'll tell you what, I rather be down in Miami," said Jeremiah Coleman, a West Central resident. 

Unfortunately for Jeremiah Coleman his day wasn't spent on the beach, instead his morning consisted of shoveling snow off his car parked in the west central neighborhood in Fort Wayne.  

"I know they've been busy but hopefully they can get this stuff cleared up, that's all I'm asking," said Coleman. 

The city has focused much of its plowing attention to the main streets and most of them are cleared, but if we look at the side streets it's a much different story. 

"Everybody doesn't live on the main streets so we need to do something for the people that live on the back streets and the side streets of Fort Wayne," said Bernard Butler, a West Central resident. 

"Every time we have a big snowfall typically we wait at least a day and a half to two days for the plows to come through sometimes longer than that," said Steve Alvarez," a Pine Valley resident. 

"It's the cities problem so hopefully they can get it done," said Coleman.  

Frank Suarez with the city of Fort Wayne says the focus has now shifted from clearing the main roads to plowing those neighborhood streets.

"We did get into the neighborhoods last night and we worked around the clock yesterday and we've been in neighborhoods today.   For the most part even the side streets are pretty packed down so they are accessible," said Suarez.   

The city estimates that 50 percent of  neighborhood streets have been cleared and the plows will continue hitting the side streets starting at 6:30 in the morning.
