Fort Wayne, Ind. (WFFT) - January 30th is the annual homeless count in Allen County. Workers at the Rescue Mission in Downtown Fort Wayne told WFFT that donations are very low during winter months after the holidays.

Fort Wayne, Ind. (WFFT) - Workers at Goodwill and the Rescue Mission in Fort Wayne told WFFT that donations are very low during winter months after the holidays.

January 30th is the annual homeless count in Allen County. The "Point in Time" count is a national initiative to count the number of homeless people nationwide. The count will not only determine how many people don't have a home, but also how much funding the community will need to help.

Unfortunatey... homelessness is increasing in Fort Wayne. The Fort Wayne Area Planning council counted 468 people without a home in 2011 and 558 people in 2012.

Workers at The Rescue Mission and Goodwill told WFFT that the numbers don't account for the homeless who avoid shelters and public venues. The Rescue Mission is concerned that if donations continue to drop, the homeless will not have access to materials including blankets, coats, and a warm meal.
