A shooting on Fort Wayne's south-east side last evening left one dead and another in critical condition.

Twenty-two- year-old Paul W. III has been identified as is the 27th  homicide victim in Allen County this year.

It made me feel sad that somebody else just got killed.  There's a lot of homicides in Fort Wayne," Alexis Mccowan, a concerned neighbor.

I don't ever see anything like that in this neighborhood," said Bernice Minor.

Police found two men in a car with gunshot wounds on the 700 block of Milton Street just after 9:30 last evening. 22-year old Paul W. Ward III was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses tell police that a third person got out of the car and fled the scene on foot.  The shooting was a little too close to home for Bernice minor.

"The car was sitting right there in my driveway and I stopped at the gas station you know I could have been in the crossfire," said Minor.

"Bullets don't have names we could have just been standing outside and it could have just gotten us," said a neighbor.

This year alone there's been 27 homicides in Allen county, more than the total number of homicides from just a year ago, a statistic Alexis Mccowan can't comprehend.

"Why does this have to happen on our street we cant ever be safe.  I have to keep my brothers and sisters in the house.  I have to keep myself in the house because it's not safe," said Mccowan.
