Fort Wayne, Ind. (WFFT) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting that senior citizens are dying from the flu at a record high rate.

This year's flu strain is the strongest in nearly a decade. Seniors are one age group that is more susceptible to the flu because their immune systems are weaker than younger people.

So far, 43 people have died of the flu in Indiana this season. 35 of the 43 deaths are people age 65 and over. This week alone, three people over the age of 65 have died from the flu.

Doctors recommend all people, including the elderly get their flu shot to protect themselves from this season's strain of the virus.
