Michael Fabini appeared in federal court today pleaded not guilty to more than 40 drug trafficking and money laundering charges against him. The judge ruled to keep Fabini behind bars as he awaits his trial.

Fabini's former step brother stands by his plea of innocent until proven guilty.

"Nobody has been convicted of anything.  We live in this Nancy grace society where we want to tell everyone they are guilty before they are.  He's innocent until proven guilty and people need to remember that," said Byron Peters.

Peters says the judges decision to keep Fabini behind bars comes as a blow to his family.

"I can't imagine the hardship that his wife is going through.  I think Michaels family is disappointed," said Peters.

The judge sided with the prosecuting attorney who said Fabini lived a double life making him a risk of fleeing before his trial date and a danger to the community.   Peters says otherwise.

"I think he openly he has admitted he has made some mistake so I don't like the word of a double life.  Michael is a great family man who loves his children.  His boys play baseball for me at Saint Joe he's just a good person," said Peters.

Marshall Butler faces charges stemming from the December raids--he pleaded not guilty and will be locked up until his trial.  Jamison Gudorf also appeared in court for his involvement.
